    Hello Timothy,

Currently, PAC offers full support for documents based on the PDF standard 1.7. Documents using newer standards are processed on a “best effort” basis, which means errors or less reliable results may occur. PAC currently provides limited support for PDF 2.0 and PDF/UA-2.

Full support for PDF 2.0 and PDF/UA-2 is planned for the long term, with a release expected around 2027.

In the meantime, instead of a validation report that says "This PDF file is not PDF/UA compliant." (which is incorrect), could it say "This PDF file is not PDF/UA-1 compliant." (which is correct, but implies the file is not UA-2)?  Or even better, "This PDF file is not PDF/UA-1 compliant, but may be PDF/UA-2."

PAC does give a warning that "unreliable results may occur", but changing the lead statement gives a more accurate representation of the compliance of the file.

    Hello Timothy,

Thank you for your valuable feedback.

In the PAC Test Report, we always clearly specify the standard against which the document has been tested. This serves as the definitive source of truth. As we continue to work towards full support for PDF 2.0 and PDF/UA‑2, we will endeavour to clearly communicate the exact standards against which a document is checked and take your feedback into further consideration.

If you have any further questions, we are happy to assist you.
