Longer quotes that appear in their own paragraph and are not part of the main text are called block quotes. Such block quotes should be tagged with a BlockQuote structure element in the document structure of accessible PDFs.
In PowerPoint, there is no dedicated placeholder for inserting block quotes. Therefore, to allow axesSlide to distinguish a block quote from a standard paragraph, the block quote must be assigned a role.
How to export block quotes accessibly in your PDF document:
- Insert the block quote into its own text box. No other content should be placed in this text box. The block quote may contain multiple paragraphs, but all paragraphs should belong to the same quote.
- Open the axesSlide tab. Select the Role Mapping button to open the axesSlide - Role mappings and reading order task pane.
- Assign the role Block quote to the text box. (You can find detailed instructions in the article Button "Role mapping".)
Done! Your block quote will now be correctly tagged with a BlockQuote structure element in the PDF.
