Captions for figures and tables must be tagged with a Caption structure element in the document structure of accessible PDFs.
In PowerPoint, there is no dedicated placeholder for inserting captions. Therefore, to allow axesSlide to distinguish a caption from a standard paragraph, the caption must be assigned a role.
Here's how to export captions to your PDF document in an accessible way:
- Insert the caption into its own text box. No other content should be placed in this text box. The caption itself may contain multiple paragraphs, but it should apply to only one figure or table.
- Open the axesSlide tab. Select the Role Mapping button to open the axesSlide - Role mappings and reading order task pane.
- Assign the role Caption to the text box. (You can find detailed instructions in the article Button "Role mapping".)
Done! Your caption will now be tagged with a Caption structure element in the PDF.
