Video and Audio

Provide Video and Audio via a Link

Video and audio in your presentation cannot be played back in the exported PDF. If necessary, make these files available in your presentation via an external link. You can find out how to insert a link in Insert Links.

Add Alt Text

If there are embedded videos and audio files in your presentation, these will export as an image so you should provide meaningful alt text. You can find out how to do this in Add Alt Text or Mark Object as Decorative.

Accessibility of Video and Audio

Video and audio files themselves should be accessible. As this is not relevant for the PDF itself, here is just a brief overview of the most important criteria:

  • Video and audio files have meaningful alt text.
  • Videos with audio content contain subtitles.
  • Videos do not flicker.
  • Relevant visual information is described by audio description.
  • Audio files are written in a transcript (on a slide or in an external link).
  • Videos and audio clips longer than 3 seconds should not be played automatically.
