Headers and footers

Headers and/or footers have the role Default in axesWord. This means that the headers and footers are marked as artifacts (and therefore do not appear in the structure tree of the PDF document).

However, if relevant information is contained in the header or footer, you should make this content accessible. To do this, change the role mappings in the context-sensitive task pane axesWord - Role Mapping:

  • Select role Section Header if the header or footer shall appear in the structure tree at the beginning of the respective Word section.
  • Select role Section Trailer if the header or footer shall appear in the structure tree at the end of the respective Word section.
  • With the role Artifact, the headers or footers are always treated as decorative elements.

Supported elements in headers and footers

  1. axesWord allows you to use images, tables (including layout tables), lists, links and quotations in headers/footers as usual.
  2. However, axesWord does currently not support the use of text boxes in headers/footers. Text boxes are always treated as artefacts.

Notes

  1. The role mappings can be defined separately for each section in your Word document.
  2. The role mappings can also be defined separately for all headers/footers with the Word setting Different First Page or Different Odd & Even Pages.

Useful settings for headers and footers

Word offers the option of creating different headers/footers for the first page of a section as well as different headers/footers for odd and even pages.

Just activate the corresponding checkboxes in the Header & Footer tab:
