- On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, select the Multilevel List button.

Select the Define New List Style... menu item.
The Define New List Style dialog opens.

Enter a name in the text field: Name.

Select the Format button.

Select the Numbering…menu option.
The Modify Multilevel List dialog opens.

Select the More button.

Make sure that level 1 is selected.

In the Number style for this level dropdown list, select number style for a numbered list or choose a bullet character for a bulleted list.

Now you must link a style with the first list level. In the Link level to style dropdown list, select in the corresponding style; for example, style "List" or "Heading 1".

To set the position of the bullets and the text position for all levels, select the Set for All Levels... button.

Select level 2, set the number style (or bullet character) and link a corresponding style.
- Repeat these steps for all needed levels.
Here is an example of a multilevel list with four (4) levels:

Finally, select the OK button.
The multilevel list that you created is displayed in the multilevel list menu in Current List group and in the List Styles group.

Hover over the list to display the name.

If you want to change the settings for your multilevel, list right-click on the list and select the Modify.
Important
Please do not specify any numbering definitions directly on the styles.
