Note: First follow all the steps in section (1). If the problem persits, go to section (2)
(1) Start the add-in using Word's options
- In Word, click on the ribbon tab "File" (left hand side on top)
- Then click on the "Options" button below - the dialog box "Word Options" appears.
- Click on "Add-Ins" on the left side.
On the right side you will now see a list of the installed add-ins, which are divided into the following groups:
- Group 1: "Active Application Add-Ins"
- Group 2: "Inactive Application Add-Ins"
- Group 3: "Document Related Add-Ins" (not relevant)
- Group 4: "Disabled Application Add-Ins"
If you have not found the "axesPDF for Word" add-in in any of these four groups, you must install axesPDF for Word again.
axesPDF for Word is in Group 1: "Active Application Add-Ins"
The "axesPDF for Word" add-in is correctly installed and the ribbon tab "axesPDF" appears in the menu bar.
The add-in "axesPDF for Word" is there and working.
axesPDF for Word is in Group 2: "Inactive Application Add-Ins"
- Select the "axesPDF for Word" add-in.
- Then select in the drop-down menu "Manage:" (at the bottom of the dialogue box) the menu option "COM add-ins" and click the "Go..." button.
- The dialog box "COM Add-Ins" appears. There you will find all inactive add-ins (checkbox not activated).
- Activate the checkbox at "axesPDF for Word".
- Click the button "OK".
- The ribbon tab "axesPDF" appears in the menu bar again (this process may take a moment).
- Done!
axesPDF for Word is in Group 3: "Document Related Add-Ins"
This is not relevant for "axesPDF for Word".
axesPDF for Word is in Group 4: "Disabled Application Add-Ins"
- Select in the drop-down menu "Manage:" (at the bottom of the dialogue box) the menu option "Disabled Items" and click the button "Go...". The dialog box "Disabled Items" appears. There you will find all deactivated add-ins.
- Select the "axesPDF for Word" add-in and click the button "Activate".
- Close and restart Word and the ribbon tab "axesPDF" will appear in the menu bar.
- Done!
(2) Force the add-in to start via the registry
(2.1) Open registry editor
Press the windows button on your keyboard an enter "reg". Now, click the app "Registry Editor":

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\axesPDFforWord.AddinModule
If the LoadBehavior is anything other than "3" then follow these steps:

Close Word. Make sure the "winword.exe" process is not running in the Windows Task Manager.

Open the registry editor. Double-click the registry key to edit it.

Change the Load Behavior to "3." Close the registry editor.

Re-open the registry editor to ensure "3" is still there.

Open Word. The add-in should now load automatically at startup.
